One of the first female superstars of Bollywood, Sridevi has had a chequered stint in Bollywood. Starting from her first Hindi film, Julie, where she played a kid sister to the heroine, Laxmi, Sridevi went on to grab eyeballs with every performance in her long career as a heroine with a rare sense of style. Traditional to the core, she was always seen in the best of silks and jasmine in real life. Yet, she was a true fashion icon in her heyday.
Radiant and well-groomd, she exudeda rare ease and comfort in all she donned, leaving onlookers speechless.
In the two decades that Sridevi dominated the Hindi film industry, she delivered many back-to-back hits and won numerous awards for films like Challbaaz, KhudaGawah, Lamhe, Naagin, and Chandni. Her beautiful sarees and get-up for Chaandni won her numerous fans, and had her female viewers work hard to achieve that Chaandni look. Her confidence and charm was in no small measure responsible for her films becoming iconic, much-loved romances for all time.
Originally hailing from Tamil Nadu, Sridevi had acted in many Telugu and Tamil movies before she made the inevitable transition to Hindi films. After nearly two decades of ruling the box office, she married producer Boney Kapoor and settled down to motherhood, and became a mother of two beautiful daughters, Jahnvi and Khushi. In 2012, after a gap of 15years, Sridevi made a huge comeback with the blockbuster English Vinglish. Her effortless acting as a simple housewife made an instant connect with the audiences and swept critics off their feet.
Even though clad in simple sarees, and minus all glamour, Sridevi Kapoor managed tolook stunning and graceful in the film.
Sridevi’s secret, from all appearances, is in dressing up her age. When she turned 50 on 13th August 2013,husband Boney Kapoor threw a lavish party that had celebrities like Hema Malini, Rishi and Randhir Kapoor, Shilpa Shetty and Raj Kundra, Riteish Deshmukh and Genelia D’souza rooting to congratulate the ageless diva. Birthday girl Sridevi stood out in her beautiful floral dress, not withstanding all the glamorous Bollywood beauties around.
The blue and pink floral outfit designed by Prabal Gurungmade her look younger than ever.
Sridevi has also walked the ranp on several occasions. She took her first step in the field of fashion by being a show-stopper at the Lakme Fashion Week in 2008. She has been a part of many ramp walks since. In 2013, she walked the ramp with several Bollywood heroines to pay a tribute to Yash Chopra and to unleash Diva’ni.
