Deepika Padukone, daughter of famous International badminton player Prakash Padukone and Ujjala Padukone was born in 5 January 1986 in Copenhagen, Denmark. Her sister Anisha Padukone is a famous golfer. Deepika followed the footsteps of her father to become a badminton player from the early school days. She went to Sophia High School and later joined Mount Carmel College following a pre university education. She was compelled to leave her graduate degree in Sociology at IGNOU due to the timing problems and her involvement in modeling projects.

Padukonewas familiar to the modeling career from early childhood. As a child, at the age of eight she started featuring in some small modeling projects. Deepika Padukone made her debut in 2006 as an actress in the Kannada movie ‘Aishwarya’ where she played the female lead role of the title character opposite actor Upendra. She was in the news everywhere Farah Khan paired her opposite SRK in 2007 for her debut Bollywood movie ‘Om Shanti Om’ directed. She received the Best Debutante and the Best Actress Awards at the Filmfare Awards for this film. In 2008 she was paired with Ranbir Kapoor in Yash Raj production’s ‘Bachna Ae Hasino’ that was also a great commercial success as the previous debut films.
Phase of Struggle (2009-11)
Padukone had a tough time since 2009 to 2011 when she worked in a series of films including Chandni Chowk to China and Love Aaj Kal (2009). She had five releases in 2010 – Karthik Calling Karthik, Housefull, Lafangey Parindey, Kheley Hum Ji Jaan Se (based on the Chittagong Armory Case), and Break Ke Baad. All these films faced criticism except her fabulous performance as a blind girl struggling with the roller skates in Lafangey Parindey opposite Neil Nitin Mukesh. Housefull turned out to be beneficial for her in terms of box office collections. In the following she had two releases- Prakash Jha’s Arakshan and Rohit Dhawan’s Desi Boyz.
Deepika Padukone’s acting career got a new dimension with the release of her highly acclaimed movie Cocktail in2012. Her sizzling avatar as Veronica in the movie gave the film a whopping box office success apart from the nomination as the ‘Best Actress’ at the Filmfare Awards. Her character in the film was a perfect mix and match of a modern woman who has everything emotions, sensuality, glamorous looks, different shades of character as a supportive friend, an alcoholic girl in a party mood and much more. Her costumes, hairstyles as well as her stunning performance won her loads of appreciation from the film fraternity and critics.
The year 2013 was a big commercial success for this young diva who delivered some of the major hits including Abbas Mastan’s thriller Race 2, Ayan Mukherji’s Yeh Jawani Hai Deewani (YJHD), Rohit Shetty’s Shah Rukh Khan starrer action comedy Chennai Express, and the most controversial film of the year Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s blockbuster film Goliyon Ki Raasleela Ram-Leela. While the two major hits – Dharma Production’s YJHD and Chennai Express created a record collection at the box office, her role in Ram Leela was under scanner from several angles ranging from exceptional outfits, catchy dialogues, challengingly strong lead character, and outstanding onscreen chemistry with co-star Ranvir Singh.
One of the most important factors about this extremely talented actress is her adaptability and intelligence to fit into a diverse range of characters. She looked awesome and stunning when she portrayed the very sensuous modern girl in films like Race 2 and Cocktail. Her South Indian look and accent in the Chennai Express did full justice to the script. Her simplicity, struggle to live a peaceful life moving away from a mismatched marriage relationship was all praiseworthy as she roused the emotions of the audiences in Chennai Express. Goliyon Ki Raasleela Ram-Leela
Deepika Padukone’s latest movie, Ram-Leela is set on the Rann of Kutch portraying the struggle between the two Gujarati clans. Bhansali portrayed Deepika in traditional ghagra choli that bestowed a unique contemporary touch of creativity by debutante designer Anju Modi. She used very bright colors that produced a dazzling effect during the screening process. Three quartered sleeved blouse designs, beautiful prints on the cotton ghagra, complimenting dupatta all paired with beautiful accessories gave her a stunning look. Modi went out of the customary white dress for the holi sequence and designed the ghagra in the most exquisite red and white combination. The most talked about is the 50 meter ghera of her silk bordered cotton ghagra in the inaugural poster with very long length and weight almost 30 kg. Her hair was roughly tied to provide the impression of a simple village girl.
