Kareena Kapoor and Saif Ali Khan tied the knot after a five-year long relationship that had them being recognized as a made – for – each other couple by the media. At 32, Kareena is ten years younger than 42-year-old Saif Ali Khan, who has two children from an earlier marriage. The duo emerged as a couple during the shooting of Kareena’s blockbuster film ‘Jab We Met’ when Kareena parted ways with co-star and then-boyfriend Shahid Kapoor. Saif Ali Khan confirmed the news of Saifeena being a couple at the Lakme Fashion Week in 2007 when the couple appeared at the event together.
Movies and Commercial Endorsements
Kareena has been Saif’s co-star in many movies so far, though their romance blossomed only after ‘Tashan’. The first time they had worked in a film together was, when Saif played an army officer and Kareena Kapoor‘s fiancé’ in ‘LOCKargil’ 2003. Their second film together was Omkara (2006) where Kareena was paired with Ajay Devgan.
But it was ‘Tashan’ (2008) that brought them together in the real sense of the term. Subsequently, Saifeena dubbed as animated characters Romeo and Laila for the much-acclaimed animation film ‘Roadside Romeo’ (2008). The year saw 2009 Kareena paired with Saif in Dharma Production’s ‘Kurbaan’ that won them critical acclaim for their astounding performances. It was around the time that they did their last film together, ‘Agent Vinod’ (March 2012) produced by Saif himself, that the couple announced their plans of getting married soon.
Since 2007, several commercial endorsements have taken advantage of their intimacy to push products. Head and Shoulders is one of the best examples one could think of.
The Saif Ali Khan and Kareena Kapoor Wedding
The actual wedding was a simple event registered under the Special Marriage Act on October 16 2012, in the presence of just 3 witnesses- Saif’s mother Sharmila and Kareena’s parents- Randhir Kapoor and Babita. Only close friends and relatives were present at the event. The marriage was formalized at Saif Ali Khan’s residence in Bandra, Mumbai. Post – marriage, the couple waved to their fans from the balcony in their simple wedding gear, – Kareena clad in a green Salwar suit and orange dupatta wrapped around her shoulders with her hands lined with orange glass, while Saif stood beside her in gray achkan and white pajamas.
The Mehendi ceremony on 14 October 2012 had Kareena with open hair and vibrant pink attire. For the Sangeet ceremony at Kareena’s Bandra residence, Kareena wore a gold and orange lehenga with a gold sleeveless blouse designed by Manish Malhotra. Kareena had a broad necklace paired with golden maang tika to match her extension earrings. She wore glass bangles during the Sangeet ceremony too. Saif was dressed in a simple white Kurta and a white half coat.
The simple wedding was followed by, a grand gala reception, though at the Dawat-E-Walima on 18 October 2012. Keeping with the high-profile event, Saif wore a black high- necked Raghuvendra Rathore sherwani while Kareena Kapoor wore a Manish Malhotra embroidered lehenga choli in pink.
Post marriage, both Saif and Kareena returned back to their busy tight schedules at work without much ado. They have several releases lined up for 2014, and are expected to notch up some spectacular performances too.
