Have you planned your movie date for Valentine’s Day yet? How about some 70’s onscreen magic? Ali Zaffar’s much-awaited ‘Gunday’ is slated to release on 14th February 2014. The Aditya Chopra production will star Ranveer Singh and ArjunKapoor in the lead roles as … Gunday, of course. Adding glamour to the star cast is our Desi Girl, Priyaka Chopra. Irfan Khan will also appear in a supporting role.

Based on the lives of two small time thieves who later get involved with the coal mafia, the movie has been shot extensively in Kolkata and Yash Raj studios. The 1970’s India has been brought back to life in detail and is a refreshing change for Bollywood inspired fashion. The film’s crew has worked extensively to recreate the yesteryear subtle but classy elegance of Bengal. Priyanka will also be seen performing in a cabaret number to justify the vintage image.

Ranveer and Arjun look dashing in their checkered shirts and splash of colours. The tough guy look has been mixed with a little fun to keep the scenes lively. But here we will focus on Priyanka’s carefully styled image to bring back memories from the flamboyant 70’s. Let’s take a look at the desi girl’s style in Gunday for some vintage inspiration in our wardrobes.

If you have seen the trailer’s, the first image that comes to your mind when you think of the Gunday stars would probably be a demure saree clad Priyanka Chopra being wooed by two dashing young men in white – Ranveer and Arjun – with big red hearts on their shirt-front. While the guys show off their chiseled body in barely buttoned up shirts and rolled up sleeves, Priyanka is mostly seen in bright sarees with sleeveless blouses. Keeping up with the desi look, her hair is let loose in gorgeous curls, and a bindi adorns her pretty face. But do not think that is all there is to Priyanka’s role in Gunday – You would also see her in the tough girl look towards the climax and also as a glamorous cabaret dancer in a song. Going by the first look, we can safely assume that Priyanka has taken a lot of inspiration from yester year diva Helen, for her Cabret scenes. Costume designer Subarna Ray Chaudhuri seems to have gotten the classic look right for this period film. You could see her expertise in Parineeta, Ekalavya and Lage Raho Munnabai – vintage styling is definitely her forte.

Gunday Preview in Dubai

Off-screen, Priyanka was spotted promoting the upcoming movie in two Dolce & Gabbana ensembles at the Dubai Film festival. Gunday’s theatrical launch was certainly ultra glamorous with Priyanka walking down the red carpet in a classy black & white double duchesse silk dress. Accessorized minimally with Viange earrings and Aruna Seth shoes, her style was strictly formal but elegant. At a photo op before the trailer unveiling, Priyanka Chopra looked pretty in a floral blue ruche sheath dress paired with Outhouse earrings and turquoise Christian Louboutin lady peep sling back sandals. Flanked by Ranveer and Arjun in matching blue blazers, the Gunday star cast looked perfect under the Dubai sun.
