Masaba Gupta is one of the freshest talents in the Indian Fashion Industry that has very high prospects to emerge as a major achiever. In July 2009, she started merchandising garments under her designer label ‘Masaba’. She launched her inaugural collection ‘Kattran’ at the Spring/Summer 2010 season of Lakme Fashion Week Genext category. This won her one of the most praiseworthy accolades- ‘Most Promising Designer of the Year Award’ by the Inter National Institute of Fashion Design. This young Indian Fashion designer also won remarkable appreciation when she unveiled her designer collection at the Wills Lifestyle India Fashion Week 2010 at the age of 20. She was the youngest of all the designers at the event. Today masaba gupta she is the proud owner of 8 retail stores in the country.
Masaba Gupta learned fashion designing from her mentor Wendell Rodricks during her studies at the Shreemati Nathibai Damodar Thakersey Women’s University. Masaba gupta has designed apparels for several Bollywood beauties including Sonam Kapoor, Jacqueline Fernanades, Kareena Kapoor, Mandira Bedi and many others. She artistically bestows a fusion touch to the garments to give it traditional aestheticism and modern western touch. Muslin and cotton are the two important fabric preferences of this young Indian Fashion Designer. The cuts, combination of colours and the entire dress-designing pattern are characterized by the uniqueness with the influence of Indian classicism.
Masaba Gupta’s designer Salwar Kameez collection has a touch of uniqueness and her signature style that won tremendous recognition at the Lakme Fashion Week. Unlike other designers, who rely on heavy embroidery and stonework, she prefers printed and light fabric for the garments that are quite easy to carry and can be a part of casual wears items. However, masaba gupta has created several heavy embroidery designer anarkalis and Salwar suits for Bollywood actresses, including Alia Bhatt, Yami Gautam, Shamita Shetty and many others. She herself has been spotted in embroidered Salwar Kameez on several occasions.
