No novice to glamour, Deepika was a top model before she made her acting debut with Om Shanti Om in 2007. Her modelling career took off when she walked the ramp for designer Suneet Varma for Lakme India Fashion Week (LIFW) Thereafter, she became the face of Liril on print and television in 2005. The same year saw her being honoured as the ‘Model of the Year’ at the Kingfisher Fashion Awards and Bollywood’s Golden Girl awarded by CNN-IBN.
As an actress, she has shown a very wide range in the roles she has assayed from a spoilt brat in “Break ke baad“, to one clad in skimpy outfits in “Cocktail“, to a well-mannered Hindu girl in Ram Leela Dress Collection, Deepika has proved her mettle as one of the versatile actresses on the silver screen.
She celebrated her four consecutive hits this year with a theme party at a posh 5-star venue in Worli. The theme was Black and Gold, and everyone was expected to conform. The leggy hostess arrived around midnight, clad in a shimmering golden gown from Gucci, along with parents Prakash Padukone and Ujjwala Padukone. The list of guests included Shah Rukh and Gauri Khan, Farhan Akhtar Aamir Khan, Kiran Rao, Amrita Rao, Sohail Khan, Aditya Roy Kapoor, Imran Khan, Malaika Arora Khan, Bipasha Basu, Shahid Kapoor, Arjun Rampal, among others. The early arrivals included director Vidhu Vinod Chopra and wife Anupama and actor Abhay Deol with model girlfriend Preeti Desai who looked gorgeous in her black outfit.
Her Ram Leela co-star Ranveer Singh truly swore by the theme and was seen in a gold and black blazer, a rare one to be worn by any star!
There were also some like star wife Kiran Rao who ditched the party theme, and worn yellow instead, although husband Aamir donned black pants to keep true to the theme.. Of the others Shilpa Shetty wore a body hugging dress by Masaba with a machine-like black print all over. Her gold accessories kept the theme alive. Richa Chadda managed to look good with her black revealing outfit and pink lips. Malaika Arora Khan, the hot mom, grabbed a Stella McCartney dress and upped her style quotient with a sequin clutch. There were two fashion disasters though; Amrita Rao in her black Mayyur Girotra corset and a chiffon skirt and Ameesha Patel in her out-of-fashion black jumpsuit.
