Mysore silk sarees are manufactured in the city of Mysore. The Factory was set up by the Maharaja of Mysore to meet the requirements of the women of the Mysore Palace. In 1980 it was handed over to the Karnataka Silk Industries Corporation Ltd. It is the only organization where the entire gamut of silk production right from rearing of the cocoon to silk weaving is done under one roof. Mysore silk sarees has been registered as Geographical Indicator under Intellectual Property Rights in 2005. This oldest silk factory produces almost 4, 00,000 meters of Mysore silk every year. The craftsmanship and quality of the Mysore silk saree is unmatched. The sarees were inspired by the period in history. Mysore Silk is synonymous with splendor and grandeur. Mysore silk is 100% pure silk fabric, blended with 100% pure gold zari {65% silver and 0.65 % gold} in crepe-de-chine and georgette varieties (texture).

Unlike other sarees, Mysore silk sarees are super light. There is quite a variety that you can choose from Chinese Crepe, Zari-bordered printed crepe silk sarees, semi crepe sarees, Georgette Sarees. These sarees are printed or dyed. You have a choice of more than 100 colors to choose from.   The 100% pure zari on the saree will not tarnish even after much use.  The KSIC also provides guarantee on its zari in the form of embroidered code No. which is unique to each saree.  It is believed that sometimes women would get the saree melted to use the gold in it.
