Popularly called as ‘Bips’ by her fans and media, Bipasha Basu was born on 7th January 1979 in a Bengali family in Delhi. She is second of the three daughters of her parents – the eldest being Bidisha and the youngest being Bijayeta. Bipasha was given a cute nickname by her family and friends – Bonny.
The dusky beauty did her schooling from Apeejay High School, New Delhi. She has often confessed that she used to be a tomboy and often wished that she was a boy. She had a commanding personality that gave her a tag of ‘Lady Gunda’ in her school
Simultaneously with her studies, Bipasha started taking up modeling assignments after being provoked by MehrJessia Rampal. In 1996, after winning the ‘Godrej Cinthol Supermodel Contest’ and ‘Ford Supermodel of the World Contest,’ there was no looking back for her. It marked the start of a successful modeling career for her. Till date, Bipasha basu has appeared on more than 40 magazine cover pages.

Acting career
Initially, actor Vinod Khanna wanted to introduce Bipasha opposite to his son Akshaye Khanna in ‘Himalay Putra,’ but she declined the offer feeling that she was too young. She was also offered a role opposite Sunil Shetty by J.P. Dutta in ‘Refugee,’ but she refused.
Finally, Bipasha basu made her debut in 2001 with a negative role opposite Akshay Kumar in Abbas Mustan’s Ajnabee. She got critical appreciation for her performance and also won a Filmfare for ‘Best Female Debut.’
The very next year, Bipasha starred in a successful thriller movie, ‘Raaz’ opposite her then boy friend, Dino Morea. She was nominated for Filmfare award for Best Actress for this film. David Dhawan’s film ‘ChorMachayShor’ came out to be the first box office flop for her.
In 2003, Bipasha again made waves with her movie ‘Jism’ opposite John Abraham where she played a sexy seductress. Her performance in the film led to her comparisons with veteran actresses Zeenat Aman and Parveen Babi.
Bipasha’s films that released in next few years – ‘Aetbaar’, ‘Rudraksh’, ‘Rakht’, ‘Madhoshi’, ‘Barsaat’, ‘Apaharan’– were not much successful at the box office. Then, she declined art film offers due to pay issues

Successful phase
In the early phase of her career, the dazzling beauty was known in the film industry more because of her sex appeal than her acting skills. It was her performance in movies like ‘No Entry’, ‘Corporate’, ‘Dhoom 2’, ‘Phir Hera Pheri’, ‘Race’ and ‘Bachna Ae Haseeno’ that she proved her mettle. Her item songs ‘Billo Rani’, ‘Beedi’, and ‘NamakIshq Ka’ were super-duper hits. She even earned the title of ‘Billo Rani.’
Bipasha’s recent work, ‘Raaz 3’ and ‘Aatma’ received a mixed response from audiences. Presently, Bipasha is working on a film titled ‘Creature 3D’ opposite Pakistani actor Imraan Abbas Naqvi.
Link-ups with co-actors
Bipasha’s love life has always been a hot rumor topic. Her first and official relationship was for six years with her ‘Raaz’ co-star Dino Morea.
Soon after her break up, she began dating with John Abraham. They were dating each other till 2010.
After this, Bipasha was also linked up with her ‘Dum Maaro Dum’ co-star Rana Daggubati, but none of them ever confirmed their relationship status.
The Bengali beauty is now often seen with Harman Baweja. The duo is often seen hanging out and partying together.
