Salman Khan may have been referred to as the bad boy of Bollywood quiet often. But one of his ventures does not open up any scope for such criticisms. BEING HUMAN is a non-profit charitable organization founded by Mr. Khan and focuses on giving a helping hand to the millions of Indians who cannot afford proper medical care and education. To get maximum response to his cause, Salman has initiated several product lines like ‘Being Human Art’ and ‘Being Human Merchandize’. Bollywood elite has also been active in supporting Salman’s efforts to make a better world for the underprivileged in our country.
Being Human Art: A collection of exclusive paintings by Salman Khan was first exhibited at Dubai in October 2009. As expected the response has been tremendous, and we can look out for more soon.

Being Human Merchandize: At the HDIL India Couture Week in 2009, BEING HUMAN clothing line was announced and the brand was globally launched in 2012. The 2009 announcement saw the largest line-up of stars with support from Amir Khan, Ajay Devgan, Akshay Kumar, Govinda, Katrina, Saif Ali Khan and Sanjay Dutt extending their support. Salman also launched the BEING HUMAN watches with another star-studded show featuring BipashaBasu, KareenaKapoor, KarishmaKapoor, Katrina Kaif, PreityZinta, Priyanka Chopra, Rani Mukherjee and Sushmita Sen. BEING HUMAN stores are located across the world in France, Belgium, Spain, UAE, Egypt, Bahrain, Saudi Arabia, Oman, Kuwait, Jordan, Labenon, Qatar and India.
BEING HUMAN Foundation has also partnered with Marrow Donor Registry – India (MDRI) and Fortis Hospitals. The foundation also supports several NGOs and conducts free eye camps.
“It is not my business to get into restaurants, clothing etc. As an actor, you only have the habit of getting things most of the times. But there is always time to give back to the society, and I am doing my bit,” – Salman talks about his initiative with much humility. About support from his Bollywood family he says; “Friends from the film industry do help whenever they can. But I am not good at asking money. You ask and keep asking for money and those people run away from you, and you lose friends.” When asked about the BEING HUMAN Merchandize, he says; “If you like any of things that are available at our stores come and pick it up. A percentage from this goes back into the charity, so you are doing charity.”
At BEING HUMAN, you can do your bit of charity by starting out with basics and picking up one of the popular t-shirts, available for sale online as well as at the exclusive stores. Jackets, blazers, trousers, shirts, shorts, jeans, sweaters, tops and tunics are also available from Salman’s clothing line. For accessories, you can choose from wallets, watches, caps, belts, mufflers and flipflops. Prices start from Rs. 400. Just as the BEING HUMAN online shopping site says; “Dress with heart!”
Bollywood’s who–is-who has not been shying away from showing their support to the cause and here’s some inspiration for you.
Sohail Khan: “We are happy that the store has opened. We all are very excited. There is a noble cause attached with the opening of the store. Salman is doing all this for society.”
Malaika Arora Khan: “I love wearing Being Human T-shirts. They are stylish, trendy and affordable.”
Hrithik Roshan: “About four months ago, I stepped into one of his stores (Being Human) and purchased a lot of clothes for myself. Salman and I have spoken about that, and he is happy to know that I am probably the only other actor who visited the store and bought clothes for himself. I admire him and believe in his symbol of being human.”
Katrina Kaif at the Being Human fashion show: “At the end of the day, it is a show which is in support of ‘Being Human’ which is a charitable foundation and I think it is a wonderful thing that people who are important in society and who have a name in society, use that name to contribute to a good cause, and I think it is wonderful that everybody really came out tonight to support the cause.”
