India is a country of varied cultures. And the ‘Big Fat Indian Wedding’ is world famous. From the north to the south, each region has its own way of celebrating its culture. South Indian weddings are sure to capture everyone’s imagination. South Indian wedding comprises of the ganpati puja– wherein Lord Ganesha is invoked and prayed to shower his blessings on the newly wed couple. This is followed by the nandi devata puja and the navgraha puja. The marriage ceremony begins with vratham (fasting) and proceeds to the kasi yatra, which is considered to be the most important part of the entire ceremony.

The traditional South Indian bride wears a kanjeevaram silk saree with lots of heavy jewelry. This jewelry is usually made out of gold which is considered to be very auspicious by the South Indians. A beautiful plat with flowers and haor accessories accentuate the look. Most brides also wear a gold waist belt in order to look figurative and keep the saree in place. The bride wears layers of necklaces, given by her parents on the wedding day.
